climate change protest

After the world's largest climate march in New York, local actions and protests continue on the many aspects of climate change and energy use. In Portland OR, about 60 people rallied at the gates of a terminal for oil tank car trains. Five of the protesters, including a public health physician, chose to sit on the access tracks. An oil terminal company employee reportedly told the group, Rising Tide and Climate Action Coalition, that the terminal had cancelled crude oil train arrivals to avoid confrontation with the group, and no arrests were made during the peaceful protest. Oil train shipments are increasing, not only risking more accidents and explosions, but also slowing schedules of passenger, freight, automobile and food trains. More at NW Rising Tide.

People's climate march in New York City draws an estimated 400,000 to urge action and show solidarity to limit rapid climate disruption.

More images and a report about the climate march, which included large contingents from health, immigrant, labor, solutions and citizens groups of all ages, are published by the Yale Climate Connections. Even more photos of NYC climate events coming up on World View of Global Warming.

This project would be impossible without scientists and observers around the world who have provided hundreds of scientific contacts and papers. See Background, Advisors, and Reference for documentation, funders and major advisors, without whom I could not complete the work.

World View of Global Warming is a project of the Blue Earth Alliance, Seattle Washington, a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. The project is supported entirely by donations, grants, and license fees for the photographs. Please see information about how to contribute.
